The Wise King gave legal status to the idea of accompanying drinks with something to nibble on. In Lugo it is still obligatory and free of charge. The Plaza del Campo, the Rúa Nova, the Rúa de la Cruz and other neighboring streets of the Café+Pub Medievo and the Cathedral make up the Wine Route of Lugo. Each place offers its specialties in wines and tapas, and our inns and restaurants have a well-deserved reputation for the quality of local products, the excellence of their culinary creations and the abundance of their portions. Going out for wine is a way of life that in Lugo is practiced every day of the week. Julius Caesar already said: "Beati Hispani quibus bibere vivere est".

The city of Lugo was born as a Roman acropolis, and its walled perimeter, the thermal baths and the bridge over the river Miño still remain from this period. But also the Medieval Burgo is hidden among the houses, squares and streets of this neighborhood within the walls. Medieval neighbors are several houses of medieval typology, some recently rehabilitated, and our Romanesque jewel, the Cathedral of Lugo, which began to build master masons of the twelfth century. The magnificent Pantocrator of its north door is one of the masterpieces of our Romanesque sculpture. The Romanesque-Gothic cloister of the old Franciscan convent is now part of the Museum of Lugo and is one of its most valuable jewels.
